The Technology
SmartLife - is the ideal solution that allows you to control all your devices through a single app. The smart home system is extremely versatile and user-friendly. It supports various protocols such as Wi-Fi, Zigbee, and Bluetooth, ensuring high compatibility. In addition, the system can be easily customized to your individual needs and can be expanded at any time as desired.
Nowadays, there are numerous protocols available to connect your smart products. The most commonly used protocols through which SmartLife devices communicate are mentioned in the following sections.
SmartLife communicates via the following protocols:
- Wi-Fi
- Bluetooth
- ZigBee
Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is a commonly known wireless communication language widely used in many households. It allows your smartphone, laptop, or smart TV to connect to the internet. All you need is to install a router in your home and connect the Wi-Fi-enabled devices to the same network and password. Wi-Fi provides an easy way to use smart home devices, allowing you to wirelessly control and manage these devices effortlessly.
However, connecting and controlling multiple smart home devices with your network can lead to network congestion. For example, your smart TV may not understand and execute commands correctly. Imagine being in a room with many people all communicating simultaneously. In this case, it could be difficult to understand each other correctly. The fewer people in a room communicating, the easier it is to understand each other clearly. So, if you want to connect and control a larger system consisting of several devices, it is advisable to use a separate ZigBee network.
Bluetooth
Bluetooth is a wireless standard for transmitting data, music, videos, or images over short distances. Thus, two paired devices can communicate with each other without a cable connection between them. Smaller devices such as speakers or car accessories are often connected to smartphones via Bluetooth.
As you may have noticed, there may occasionally be a disruption in the connection when your phone leaves the room where the speaker is playing music. As a result, the music stops. To control Bluetooth-enabled devices, it is necessary to be near the corresponding product. The signal range is lower than that of Wi-Fi. Bluetooth is a wireless communication technology commonly used for transferring small amounts of data. Due to this characteristic, it consumes significantly less energy than Wi-Fi.
ZigBee
ZigBee is an extremely versatile communication protocol, especially known for its energy efficiency. It is used for wireless control of intelligent devices within a network. Devices using ZigBee communicate on the 2.4 GHz frequency and are capable of both sending and receiving information. Moreover, they can relay signals to other participants in the network, leading to a chaining of participants and thus increasing the range and reliability. ZigBee is supported by many well-known manufacturers as well as by SmartLife and is therefore used in numerous smart products and solutions. The applications are extremely diverse, ranging from simple on/off switches to complex home automation solutions. A ZigBee-Gateway (Hub) allows you to connect a wide range of devices and ensure intelligent and efficient control. By using this wireless communication protocol, devices can interact with each other, allowing you to control the lights, heating, or other electronic devices in your home. This simplifies everyday life, as various smart devices communicate with each other and can complement each other.
Which product and protocol should I choose?
Some products are available in both Wi-Fi and Zigbee versions. To choose between the two variants, it is advisable to think ahead. For example, when it comes to lighting, it might be useful to start with a Wi-Fi bulb to experience the benefits of smart lighting. After some time, you may want to expand your smart home. In this case, you should think about your next steps. Create a wish list and prioritize the products you want to replace with a smart version. Then consider which communication protocol meets your requirements.
