Application: Scrape several flakes or shavings from the large/grey magnesium block and place them together in a compact pile on a fireproof surface, combined with additional thin twigs, dry leaves and other tinder. Then rub several times with the metal scraper, applying light pressure, along the thin black fire steel. The extremely hot sparks produced in this way ignite the magnesium shavings and tinder. Tip: Detach the metal scraper from the chain so you can work more easily.
